1925: WHY EL CHOLO?
A guest wandered in for dinner and while waiting, he draws a figure of a man (now the one you recognize from our menu). He calls him “EL CHOLO”. In those days EL CHOLO was the name given by Spanish settlers in California to their field hands. Alejandro liked the man that was drawn (and the name) and immediately changed Sonora Cafe to EL CHOLO CAFE!
