1923 OPENING DAY

This photo is of the opening day of George and Aurelia’s first restaurant across the street from the current Western location. Aurelia’s parents had the very first El Cholo and gave their consent for the newly married couple to open up one of their own. This was an extremely small restaurant consisting of just one long counter and a few booths beside it. During the height of The Great Depression, George had the opportunity to buy a small bungalow house across the street and turn a residential house into the current restaurant that stands to this day. George’s brother, Jimmy Salisbury (wearing a bow tie), can be seen standing with three other employees.
