Why I Love El Cholo

Pop's loved his tamales, and his young grandson was beside himself with his sizzlin' fajitas.
I made a reservation for 10, but as word spread , a few more family members showed up unexpectedly.  The staff was more than understanding, and quickly found more chairs.  The smile on our Pop's face as he was greeting family members he had not seen in years, and singing along with the mariachis his old favorites.  We had no idea that the staff had decorated our table.  It was wonderful.  Pop's loved his tamales, and his young grandson was beside himself with his sizzlin' fajitas.  The atmosphere was so warm and great for such an important family gathering.  Even other diners joined in wishing Pop a very happy birthday.  What even made this great night more special, is the staff served a cake we brought to us and sang to Pops.  The polaroid El Cholo took of him in that wonderful sombrero went right to his nightstand.  He went to sleep smiling.  Thank you for this perfect memory. 4\12\2007

We both had the Tostada Compuesta, and it was great!
My husband and I lived in L.A. some 30 years ago. We had moved West from upstate New York looking for excitement and opportinities. He had just gotten out of the Air Force and started college while I worked for an Insurance company. A friend of ours told us about a sensational Mexican Restaurant nearbye that we simply had  too try. I've always been a little hesitant too try new things, but am I glad we went this time. We both had the Tostada Compuesta, and it was great!(Back then it was only 3 dollars). We still think about El Cholo now here in retirement in Daytona Beach. All 3 kids are grown up and gone. We always look for new Mexican places when we leave town, but for 35 years now, nothing has topped your quality. Thanks for everything.

I rembember El Cholo when I was a young girl in 1938
I remember the El Cholo when I was a young girl of about 8-10 years old. It was in 1938 when I lived in San Pedro that my mother and step dad used to go to the El Cholo. I recall it as very fine food. Now that I am 77, I want to come back and re-visit the El Cholo and have some of those green tamales.

In my opinion you’re restaurant is the best Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles!!

Good morning,

I do have an experience that I would like to share you.

My friends and I have been regular customers for about 15 years. In my opinion you’re restaurant is the best Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles!!

A couple of years ago we had the pleasure of meeting one of your employees,  He was a waiter in the lobby and his name was “Oscar” It’s still hard thinking about him, but he made my experience at El Cholo worthwhile. This young man was the reason why my girlfriends and I would go the restaurant on Friday night’s just to have drinks, enjoy the atmosphere and talk to our dear friend “Oscar” When I heard that he had passed away all of us just couldn’t believe it. Everybody (including all the ladies) loved him. I occasionally go to the restaurant but it’s not the same! I miss seeing his smile when I would open the doors. So I came up with an idea.. Why don’t you declare his station and rename it “Oscar’s rinconcito” translation: Oscar’s corner… It would mean a lot to all of his customers that knew him and loved him.  It’s just an idea.

Oscar’s friend, Fatima
